Swahilini renders through song the daily life of Daddy Maisha, African songster on a tin-roof stranded in Tanzania's most infamous asquatter camp, his friendship with the "Other" - the outside film-maker - born out of interdependence : a firt film for a first album. Daddy's fortunes are both social and musical testament to the sad glory of the condition trapped in urban Africa, in a place where the poor seek to outlast misery. A lyrical and sentimental loo at the reality of men an women who are only what they have, who live for having, not for being.
