UNDER THE WHITE MASK. THE FILM THAT HAESAERTS COULD HAVE MADE is a film that uses fragments from Under The Black Mask, an 1958 art film by the Belgian artist Paul Haesaerts. This new piece imagines what the masks would have said. Aimé Césaire's "Discourse on Colonialism" is spoken in Lingala for the first time. His words still form a confrontational mirror for Europe. In an attempt at reparation, the film limits itself to images, texts and music already available to Haesaerts.

SOUS LE MASKE BLANC. LE FILM QU‘HAESAERTS AURAIT PU RÉALISER ist ein Film, der Fragmente von SOUS LE MASQUE NOIR nutzt, einem Kunstfilm des belgischen Künstlers Paul Haeserts aus dem Jahr 1958. Diese neue Arbeit stellt sich vor, was die Masken gesagt hätten. Aimé Césaires Essay „Über den Kolonialismus"wird erstmals auf Lingala eingesprochen. Seine Worte halten Europa noch immer einen konfrontativen Spiegel vor. Der Film versucht sich an einer Reparation und beschränkt sich auf Bilder, Texte und Musik, die bereits Haesaerts zur Verfügung gestanden hätten.
