At the age of 25, the artist-caricaturist BB finds himself faced with an impossible choice. Son of the inflexible imam Karamo, the guardian of his village's ancestral traditions, BB is chosen to be his father's worthy successor. But he refuses to accept his destiny, preferring to work independently and live life to the fullest with his love, the beautiful young computer scientist Kesso. Clouds Over Conakry is a very impressive film that finds a new approach to capturing the tradition-versus-modernity theme so frequently seen in African cinema.

Religione e politica fanno da sfondo alla storia d'amore tra il giornalista Bibi e la programmatrice di computer Kesso che aspetta un figlio. Il padre di Bibi, imam del villaggio, non può accettare di avere un nipote nato al di fuori del matrimonio, per non delegittimare il suo ruolo e per continuare ad avere influenza sulla popolazione. Durante la stagione secca, infatti, tutti sono convinti che solamente le preghiere potranno far ritornare la pioggia. Proprio per questo motivo l'imam è stato nominato responsabile della distribuzione dell'acqua.

Una denuncia delle trame che uniscono stato e religione per mantenere lo status quo e frenare lo sviluppo. Un film attento a questa realtà che congela e paralizza moltissimi villaggi africani. Una pellicola apprezzata che ha vinto il premio del pubblico al Fespaco 2007.

Conakry, a capital da Guiné, sofre de uma seca prolongada. BB, um caricaturista político que trabalha para um jornal liberal, apaixonou-se pela filha do seu patrão. O problema é que BB é filho do Imã de Conakry, que tem grandes planos para este filho - os espíritos decidiram que BB será o seu sucessor. Entretanto, políticos corruptos exploram a ingenuidade do Imã e pretendem que ele faça de feiticeiro que sabe a dança da chuva. Mas a chuva purificadora recusa-se simplesmente a cair até que… Grande cinema emocional com um subtil sentido das realidades políticas.
