Bénita, a young pupil lives with her parents in Yaka a small village of Burkina. One evening, in going back to school, she is informed that she will marry an old notable of the village. Binéta ran away and went to town. In her absence, the marriage is celebrated and the fetish of the village are the witnesses of this new union. A few times after that, Baldé died. In Yaka, in such a circumstance, the widow of the dead person must dance during a ritual for the rest of her dead husband. Summoned, Binéta refused to go to village because, for her, the marriage never took place. This is the beginning of her problems which will lead her to torment.
