After studies in sociology, Walid Tayaa focused his attention on filmmaking. He directed amateur short films and worked on a variety of films as the First Assistant Director. In 2006, he directed his first professional short film Madame Bahja which was selected in the category "All the Cinemas of the World" at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. He took part in a continuing education course at the FEMIS in 2007 under the direction of Eve Deboise. He directed two short films in 2009: Prestige and Vivre which received international awards.
