Annette Mbaye d'Erneville, bijgenaamd "Mère bi" (de moeder) wordt verfilmd door haar zoon. Voorbestemd om onderwijzeres te worden vertrekt zij na de tweede wereldoorlog naar Parijs waar zij de Afrikaanse intelligentsia vervoegt en zich ontwikkelt tot journalist. Bij haar terugkeer in Senegal wordt zij de eerste vrouwelijke journaliste van Senegal. Zij wordt directeur van de radioprogramma's, oprichtster van de ‘Rencontres Cinématographiques' van Daker (RECIDAK), maar eveneens dichteres, scenariste, ontdekster van talentvolle jongeren en vooral voorloopster in de emancipatiestrijd van de Afrikaanse vrouwen. Zij richt het ‘Museum van de Vrouw' op in Gorée, het eerste in zijn soort in Afrika. Als 82-jarige droomt zij ervan een drukkerij te openen!

Filmed by her son, this is the portrait of Annette Mbaye d'Erneville, also known as "Mère-bi" (Mother). Originally trained to become a teacher, she moved to Paris after the war, formed ties with the African intelligentsia and studied journalism. She returned to Senegal to become the first female journalist there. She started a magazine, directed radio programming, created the Dakar Film Festival and is also a poet, scriptwriter, and talent scout. A pioneer fighting for the emancipation of African women, she created a women's museum in Gorée, the first of its kind in Africa. At 82, this woman dreams of opening a printing house.
